Time comes when a man's got to do what a man's got to do. Which in my case, was finally succumb to the temptation to buy Proust's masterpiece in the Pleiade edition. It's an object of beauty that brings back so many memories of my earlier life. It's possibly the only thing in my life that makes me feel like I have achieved adult status. As for the text, well we all know how unfathomably compelling that is.

OK, but ends mid-chapter

The text seemed OK but I found it disconcerting that it ends in the middle of a chapter (chapter 2). Why would an editor do that? Volume 12 continues from the break point so no great harm is done. But after downloading volume 12 I couldn't find volume 13, so I've switched to a different edition, one that presents La Prisonnière in a single volume

Proust on the cheap

Everything that can said about Proust has already been said by proper literary critics. He's brilliant on childhood, memory and love. 10 volumes so not a fast read. I'm only 16% in but I'll finish it. Good value - all 10 books for under £3 and I can use my Kindle French dictionary with it to look up words as I go.
